Saw N.E.R.D.

Posted in Hip Hop, Shoes with tags , , , , on May 30, 2009 by JB

Saw N.E.R.D. last night. It wasn’t bad. Anti-Matter’s a pretty sweet song, but I don’t know many of their other songs. Not exactly my kind of music, but they got a couple songs I liked, and Pharrell was pretty cool.

That’s a picture of one of Kanye West’s Louis Vuitton sneakers. They look pretty interesting to me, but way outta my price range. Click the pic for more info and other KW + LV sneaks. Oh, by the way, last week I saw a guy on the subway wearing Air Yeezys. It was the first time I’ve seen them in person. It was beautiful.

Spot’d this on illroots. It’s a sweet song by Naledge from Kidz in the Hall. Apparently it’s an old song, but they could never get the sample cleared. It’s a pretty cool song. Better than a good amount of the songs on the last KITH album IMO. That album was kinda iffy to me. Some pretty good songs, but a lot of just “okay” songs. But still, it was much better than it sold.It was still a decent cd. Anyways, check out the song.

U Oughta Know– Naledge

breakfast club

I knew I said I’d be featuring songs off of Donny Goines’ new free album, The Breakfast Club. Well I’ve been kinda busy, and I kinda forgot. But I just remembered, so here’s another great track. Cookin Soul’s beat is great. Love the horns. Tanya Morgan, Jeremy Carr, and Donny Goines all get it done. Real cool song, and I’ll be featuring more in the next few days.

Here’s a cool video I saw on 2DB. Dallas Penn made this music video of Statik Selektah’s song Talkin’ ‘Bout You. It’s pretty cool, and it’s an awesome song.

Too busy…

Exams are starting up, so I haven’t had much time to post. But I’ll try to catch up right now.

blaq poet

Here’s a cool song by Blaq Poet feat. NORE. It’s produced by DJ Premier, so you know it’s gonna sound good. The song’s about hate and jealousy toward those who get successful. The beat’s banging just like Primo always makes ’em. To me, this music sounds right at home now and would also sound right 10 years ago. Timeless if you know what I mean. Blaq Poet’s a talented guy. The song’s off of Blaq Poet’s new album, the Blaqprint. I heard it’ll be coming out June 30. Definitely check it out.

Hate– Blaq Poet feat. NORE

Caught this on 2DB. A new song from Sha Stimuli featuring Nas. Sha’s a talented guy. I’ve liked some of his stuff, and this song’s definitely one of my favorites of his. Also, am I the only person who loves his name? Sha Stimuli. That’s just cool. And it’s fun to say too. (Sorry about that. Just had to get that out there.) Anyways, this song’s cool. Give it a try.

haha, stupid kid. Speaking of karma, did you hear My Name is Earl got cancelled? It kinda sucks, but I don’t watch it much anyways. I’m just happy they renewed Chuck, that show is awesome.

Alright, I’m still playing catch-up from last week. I finally got a chance to listen to Donny Goines’ free album The Breakfast Club. This album is awesome. Free albums like this blow my mind. This is up there with U-N-I’s A Love Supreme and a couple other free albums this year that have been better than 90% of the stuff you pay for. Not a weak track on this album IMO. You need to check it out. Get the whole album here. In case you’re not convinced, I’ll be featuring a song for each of the next couple days to give you a taste of what Goines has got to offer.

Make Me Feel– Donny Goines feat. Emilio Rojas

A lot of these songs have a real cool 80s vibe as part of The Breakfast Club concept. The sample on this song is insane. Makes me wonder why I don’t hear as many 80s-style rap songs. Goines and Rojas both do their jobs and  perfectly complement the beat. This is one of my favorites on the album, but believe me, there are even better songs.

The Breakfast Club.

sandpeople

Here’s a new track from Sandpeople.

Money On Their Minds- Sandpeople

Sandpeople are a 10 person Hip Hop group outta Portland, Oregon. Money On Their Minds is a track off their new EP,  Long Story, Short. Long story short, the track’s nice. If you like it, SHH.

Between Two Ferns: Bradley Cooper

One of the hilarious interviews done by Zach Galifianakis. I might post videos more often, now that I know how to post them from funnyordie.com

Finally this weekend is over…

Posted in Hip Hop, Videos with tags , , , , on May 26, 2009 by JB

It’s really weird when I want the weekend to be over and I’m waiting for the week. Ugh. It’s because I’ve been really busy the past few days. Went to my cousin’s wedding and lots of semi-related family parties. Then I spent all of last night working on my paper for African American Studies. I hope it doesn’t suck. At this point, I don’t really know if it was any good or not. Fingers crossed.

Anyways, that’s why I haven’t posted anything in the last few days. Here’s what I’ve seen while playing catch up.

Cool song I caught on 2DB. It’s a Bonia Applebum remix which is really cool. I love Bonita Applebum. You gotta put me on. For real, that is one of my favorite ATCQ songs. Just the vibes and feel from that song are perfect. Of course, this remix isn’t as good as the original. But it’s not bad, so give it a listen.

Put Me On (Bonita Applebum Remix) – Bobby Ray (B.o.B.)

Classic…

Here’s a cool video from NahRight. Just 9th Wonder talking about producing and sampling. The classic debate: Hardware vs. Software. If you’re interested in producing and stuff like that, definitely check it out. Nothing groundbreaking but always interesting to hear the perspective of a great like 9th Wonder. I agree with him, it’s the person, not the machine. You could put anything in front of me, I still couldn’t produce jack squat.

finale

Here’s a released track off of Finale’s A Pipe Dream & A Promise. A real cool track about real life situations. You know, a song that’s actually saying something. Produced by Swiss producer Dimlite, the beat’s real understated and sets the mood but allows the lyrics and stories to really take center stage. Check it out and Support Hip Hop.

Issues– Finale (prod. by Dimlite)

By the way, there’s also this cool game called Super Finale. You basically play as Finale in Super Mario Bros. That’s how you know you’ve made it, you get your own video game. Supposedly you can win a free track if you beat the game. Can’t verify that just yet. So if you got a couple minutes to waste, check it out.

Also streaming the title track of Finale’s A Pipe Dream & A Promise. I just love the production on this track. The horns, piano, the soulful hook. This is music. Be sure to SHH.

Just wasting time…

Damn I got a paper due Tuesday. The Color Line? Black Political Ideologies? I have no idea what I’m doing. I really shouldn’t be wasting time with stuff like this, but, WordPress, I just can’t quit you. Here’s some stuff from the last two days that you need to check out.

A little late on posting this. Here’s a video from Tanya Morgan giving a little more insight on their album Brooklynati. If you haven’t heard it yet, you got to get on it. Stuff’s dope.

This video’s been going around, and I figure I’ll put it up too. It’s a song produced by RODDYROD featuring Phonte and Carlitta Durand. Real sweet song. Be sure to check it out and be on the lookout for Cuba After Market coming soon. Link from Fresh Selects.

Found this on Flawless Hustle. Here’s a new song by Kid Daytona and produced by Jet Audio. Check it out.

Twilight– The Kid Daytona (prod. by Jet Audio)

Here’s LA producer d.C.’s remix of Gladiator by Common. Heard this on FH too. This remix is awesome. The original song’s alright, one of the better ones on the album, but I still didn’t like it that much. That whole album just didn’t really sound right to me. But this, this sounds right.

Gladiator– Common (d.C. remix)

And the original…

So yeah, I definitely like d.C.’s better. What do you think?

When will school end?

Posted in Hip Hop with tags , , , , on May 21, 2009 by JB

Hey, sorry I’m posting a little late today. Been really busy at school, and it looks like I’m gonna be even busier this weekend. I’ll definitely try to get some posts in though.

I’m taking this African American Studies class. The class is the hardest class I’ve taken here. For real, I really got to go all out on the next paper because the professor grades incredibly hard. I heard it was kinda hard, but damn. This is really hard.

Here’s a sweet song I heard from Frank Nitt (of Frank n Dank). Beat’s got a real deep, smooth sound. Mix that with the chorus, the song has a little of a 90s vibe. Frank and DJ Quik do their jobs and come up with a great track. Support Hip Hop.

Love- Frank Nitt feat. DJ Quik and J. Black

Just heard about this song by Donwill of Tanya Morgan. Song’s called Laura’s Song and it’s inspired by the movie High Fidelity. He’s got a whole concept album in the works that will be based on the movie. Here’s what Donwill had to say:

“The album Don Cusack in High Fidelity is a remake of the movie High Fidelity (starring John Cusack). It is one of my favorite movies of all times. I feel that the movie has a lot of parallels to my personal life, so many that I’ve decided to cast myself in the role of Rob Gordon (Cusack’s character) for the duration of this project.”

And finally, here’s a cool track I caught off of Fresh Selects. It’s a Trackademics remix of the Little Dragon song “After the Rain.” I gotta admit, I don’t know who Trackademics or Little Dragon are, but this song’s pretty cool. Be sure to check it out and you can learn more about the groups here.
