Cinco De Mayo

Happy Cinco De Mayo! I come from a town that’s like 30-40% Latino and mostly Mexican, so back home Cinco De Mayo’s a big deal. It’s always so weird here when the day comes around, and there’s nothing going on. I should be able to hear Mexican music wherever I go, and I should be able to see people dancing in traditional Mexican clothing and all that.

But here, there just seems to be nothing. I think if I looked harder I could probably find something, but it was so much easier back home. So on Cinco de Mayo, I play some Montez de Durango, K-Paz de la Sierra, etc. It makes me feel like I’m back home, as weird as that sounds.

I’m not actually Latino, but being mixed the way I am, I’ve been mistaken as Latino for my whole life. I just wish I could speak the language, but I suck at that stuff. Took Spanish for 3 years in high school, and still nothing. I can read it alright, but that’s it.

Proof of Cinco de Mayos awesomeness.

Pretty sweet shoes. Be sure to click the pic to check out some other cool Cinco de Mayo nikes. Cinco de Mayo just reminds me of home, and also reminds me that the school year’s almost over. That’s crazy man. It’s May 5 already. Holy Crap. School’s almost over. What did I do this year? Nothing. Damn it.

I caught Busta’s new mixtape on WYDU yesterday. Definitely check it out. I haven’t had a chance to listen to it, but it’s Busta Rhymes so I’m not worried. His verse on Lion’s Roar (on Asleep In the Bread Aisle) was sweet and made Asher Roth seem even cornier and whiter than usual (if that’s possible). So the guy’s still on his game. Also saw this Reflection Eternal vid on Freddie Joachim’s blog.

Talib and Hi-Tek back together. Can’t wait for their new album Revolutions Per Minute. Talib’s one of my favorites of all time.  Mark your calendars, it’ll be out this summer.
